By the year 2050, 75% energy in Dubai will be clean, the CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has said.

Speaking at the 2016 edition of the World Government Summit about ‘How clean tech is shaping the future of energy’, His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said: “From now until 2020, we already commissioned 30MW and connected to the grid, and next year we will also commission another 200MW.

“Presently we have more than 800MW tendering and by 2020, we'll have 7% of clean energy. By 2030, 5000MW and so by 2050 we [will] have about nearly 75% clean energy.”

Al Tayer also revealed that DEWA has invested an estimated AED 7 billion over five years into its Smart Grid.

“That will remove our KPI especially the line loss and the customer minute loss – definitely this will improve efficiency,” he said.

He further shared: “Besides that, we have CSP [Concentrated Solar Power] technology that I think we’re going to award after nearly three years, because presently it is very expensive. It costs about 10 times more than the PV (Solar Photovoltaic) technology.”
