A mobile application that help calm autistic children, an app that relays messages to and from deaf people and an integrated service to provide traffic alerts and speeding warnings were amongst the winners of the ‘Best M-Government Service Award’ at the 2016 World Government Summit.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai honoured the awardees during Day 3.

This year’s award included two new categories: ‘Wearable Technology’ and ‘One-stop App’. 

The awards are a global platform to present the best innovations in smart applications from around the world that improve life and happiness of people.

 

LIST OF WINNERS

Wearable Technology

-Winner (International): T-Jacket, Singapore - A body monitoring system connected to a smart device; used in special needs education to calm children with autism.

-Winner (National): Dubai Police, UAE - Users can see what kind of traffic tickets they have and pay online in interactive intelligent way.

 

One-stop-app

-Winner (International): Mobile One, India - The app combines services of multiple states and central government departments as well as private service providers.

-Winner (Arab): Kuwait Gate, Kuwait - The app allows users to check on Civil ID status, traffic violations, travel bans, passport and residency validity.

-Winner (National): Dubai Smart Government, UAE – A comprehensive suite of Smart Government services from one single gate.

 

Health

-Winner (International): Force fit, New Zealand - Designed by the New Zealand Defence Force to help prepare new recruits for their fitness test.

-Winner (Arab): Rendezvous, Kingdom of Morocco – This app allows users to manage hospital rendezvous by providing telephone numbers and appointment schedules.

-Winner (National): Health Abu Dhabi, UAE – Provides awareness and assistance to individuals on services in field of health in the emirate.

 

Economy and Commerce

-Winner (International): Occupation Outlook 2015, New Zealand - This app is designed to help students make well-designed career choices. It provides information on 50 key occupations.

-Winner (Arab): Ministry of Economy and Trade app, Qatar – This application provides Smart services such as renewing trade licenses and other services related to financing.

-Winner (National): Ministry of Labour, UAE – This app provides interactive smart services used by employers and employees enabling them to reach out to the ministry at each and every level.

 

Environment

-Winner (International): Energy Watch, Sweden – This app provides users with property control allowing them to track energy usage and remotely control energy levels contributing to reducing levels of pollution.

-Winner (Arab): Water and Electricity Services, Kingdom of Bahrain – Users can access services related to e-billing and receiving notices about their area and payment of bills.

-Winner (National): Dubai Electricity and Water Authority – The DEWA app provides information about consumption of water and electricity as well as facilitates payment of bills.

 

Transportation and Infrastructure

-Winner (International): iDPass, France – Users can plan a trip to France by choosing all kinds of public and electric transportation.

-Winner (Arab): Morocco Highway, Kingdom of Morocco – This app acts as a co-pilot for drivers traveling on Morocco’s highways.

-Winner (National): Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, UAE – Users can access a list of services designed to provide assistance with public transportation services in Dubai.

 

Education

-Winner (International): School A-Z, Australia – An essential tool for every parent of school age kids with parenting information and support for helping with kids’ homework.

-Winner (Arab): Ambassador of Students, Saudi Arabia - A higher education smart services app that allows users to follow up on applications and also progress students sent abroad for education.

-Winner (National): Ministry of Labour Wajjehni, UAE – The application serves as a platform in both Arabic and English to provides services to educational institutions, students and private sector companies to manage Work Placements and Summer training operations.

 

Social Affairs

-Winner (International): National Relay Service, Australia – An Australian Government initiative with a range of services for the hearing impaired.

-Winner (Arab): Zakat calculator, Sultanate of Oman – This app provides users information about Zakat calculations.

-Winner (National): General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments, UAE -

Users can find out about all religious decisions as well as prayer timings and direction of prayer.

 

Safety and Security

-Winner (International): Alert Cops, Spain – Users can report danger, theft or security issues and also get directions to the nearest police station.

-Winner (Arab): Sultanate Oman Police, Sultanate of Oman – The app provide information about police services as well as fines, news, traffic departments and nearest police stations.

-Winner (National): Dubai Police, UAE - This app provides various services by Dubai Police, including traffic, security and community services.

 

Tourism

-Winner (International): My Hong Kong Guide, Hong Kong – Users can create guides with their friends choosing from more than 1,800 activities and as well as look at trip ideas from other travelers and share experiences on social media.

-Winner (Arab): Visit Jordon, King of Jordan – The application provides information about historical, religious and natural sites in the Kingdom of Jordan.

-Winner (National): Visit Dubai by Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing, UAE  - The app provides mobile inspiration to visitors and residents with different ideas of what and where to explore based on the time of day, location, and interests.

 

University

-Winner: Monitoring the Road by New York University Abu Dhabi in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, UAE – This app is connected to an interface that allows drivers to know the situation on the roads, receive traffic alerts as well as other smart services such as speed limit warning to help reduce traffic accidents. The app also includes a points system to motivate drivers to be disciplined on the roads.
