Sandra Milligan
Executive Director, Melbourne Metrics
Professor Sandra Milligan is the Executive Director of Melbourne Metrics at the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Education. She has an extensive background in education, including roles as a science and mathematics teacher and Director of Curriculum in an Australian state education department. Her experience spans government agencies, non-profits, startups, and international corporations. Her research focuses on the assessment and recognition of complex competencies, commonly referred to as 21st-century skills. She leads the "New Metrics" initiative, a collaborative research project aimed at transforming educational assessment and credentialing. Professor Milligan also developed a widely attended professional learning MOOC for teachers on assessing and teaching these skills, enrolling over 30,000 educators globally. In 2023, she was honored with the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL) Gold Medal for her outstanding contributions to education leadership and administration.
